Cadence Craft Backpack – Review [Waterproof Commuter Bag Tested]

My glasses accompany me wherever I go.

As such, they are installed by an optical format, each item fully customized and tailored to me and my requirements.

They also needed no less than 37 messages, photos and videos in the Whatsapp family chat to choose the design of my current partner.

The only other object on this planet that accompanies me is where my backpack is.

Historically, however, it has not been rigorously selected to match its frequency of use. There is no appointment with someone trained to fit it and, at best, only 3 WhatsApp messages to decide on a bag. But after having had several failed bags at work due to damage, lack of waterproofing or simply lack of style, the search for a backpack that could be my daily transport around London has intensified.

Enter the solution suggested by the British brand Craft Cadence for this problem: its 30-liter waterproof backpack aimed directly at the cyclist. It comes in yellow and black and costs £ 89.99.

This bag has been designed by London travelers and, as a fellow London cyclist, I can say that this is noticeable.

As anyone traveling in the UK knows, a waterproof bag is almost essential, assuming you like your clothes and laptop to be dry, and this backpack is waterproof at the end. Classified as IPX 5, providing effective waterproofing in all weather conditions, this package kept the entire load completely dry in thorough rain tests in both London and the rainy north (Manchester). This is achieved by welded seams and a suitable canvas material, which means that it is also durable, suitable for the roughness and fall of city bike rides.

Large waterproof backpack for travelers

Unlike many other waterproof bags, this one is great. The capacity of 30 L is wide for all the essential elements of the displacements. My usual payload (laptop, clothes, shoes, lunch box, towel, flask) fit comfortably without folding in origami style and with plenty of space.

Craft has added a removable inner sleeve to allow for a greater degree of organization. At first I didn’t see the merits of this, but recently I came to see the light. When I went to work, the sleeve was useful to keep things in place. But when it came to maximizing gross capacity, like my weekly store, a large compartment allowed me to buy and transport much more junk food. There is also an external pocket, not IPX 5, which was useful for keys / wallet / mask as it allows faster access than the main compartment.

I can’t decide if I like the fastening mechanism or not. It’s a little tricky, but it works, but my cold winter hands might have appreciated something a little simpler. However, it allows you to fill the bag to the brim (and a little further).

As someone who sweats like a pig just thinking about riding a bike, a backpack usually only serves to further aggravate this problem. To alleviate this, Craft designers have cleverly added extruded foam back panels that allow air to flow through the rider’s back. While that didn’t make it a completely sweat-free experience, it’s certainly better than many other backpacks in this department. With the hip and chest straps on, the bag sat securely at all times in a way that didn’t stop my cycling at all.

In terms of style, the yellow variant they sent me is clearly a cycling backpack, but the black edition is discreet enough for more formal configurations. That being said, we were often asked what bag it was while fellow cyclists looked at it.

So considering all the things, has the Craft Cadence backpack ended up becoming my everyday backpack? Well, not at all … Because my parents kidnapped him and turned him into his everyday bag. While my search for a bag may continue, it won’t be because this bag is waterproof, durable, and comfortable, all you need from a bag like this.
