I guess maybe not as often as we would like. Possibly because we don’t believe in “ease” as a coherent way of being day after day. And yet the alternative is dis-facility.
We’ve been through a lot of things this past year or so, including a feeling of widespread illness. Directly or indirectly, we have all been exposed, installed, or surrounded dis-facility; mentally, emotionally, physically … and energetically. Collectively, we may be dealing, but it is at the individual level where change occurs … where choices affect outcome.
When we “recover” from an illness, instigation is survival as we try to move away from the situation to move away from fear. The hope is to create less dis-easiness, but in the absence of a seductive vision, the underlying forces of “recovery” will pull us back. At best, we can tread water. When, however, we decide transcend an experience, we alter our orientation and trajectory towards a flourishing one … and we must flourish to embody ‘ease’. Ease becomes the guide, the light, the inspiration. Life cultivates a new meaning, the soul awakens and the elections take place easier, aligned with feelings of well-being. We fall into the stream.
A life of ease, however, is not a smooth choice. Far. Our thoughts create ease or well dis-facility. There are no other parameters. Fear creates dis-Ease, joy creates ease … and so when we line up easily, we begin to choose accordingly. And while some may be obvious, some are less so. A chemotherapy program, intensive study or work, for example, can be easier than the alternatives. It’s all a matter of context and perspective. Keeping boundaries or a challenging conversation may one day, in the sudden understanding of our underlying fear, become easier than our silence. When we align ourselves with joy, life becomes very real.
We understand that ease is not just an idea, but a practice: that it is not wealth, but health; not resistance but expansion, and all that, as it is, too. We become adept at maintaining experiences and ourselves lightly, knowing when to intervene and when to leave space. We move with the underlying forces and movements of time and energy. We enjoy the changing context and nuances, watching as the “hard” choices become movements of ease and expansion, inspired by inner discovery.
Choosing ease is a will, above all, to enter into lightness. Willingness to ask the question: What would you do easily right now? And to hear the answer. That can only be a good thing, right? ⁇
