Office clothes for cyclists [ULTIMATE STYLE GUIDE]

You can bring whatever you want when you ride a bike.

You can equip yourself with Lycra. You can wear your “normal” clothes. You can even pedal with your birthday dress as long as other people are with you and call it a “protest.”

But just because you can, doesn’t mean you have to.

No, at least if you want to ride comfortably and in style.

Traveling with performance equipment like Lycra is great for comfort, but it’s certainly not sleek and you’ll have to bring a change of clothes with you.

In the meantime, going in normal clothes is great because in theory you don’t need a change of clothes. The problem is that most of your clothes are not made for cycling, so you will often feel uncomfortable while driving and it could leave you sweatier than usual if your clothes are not breathable.

While the previous puzzle was the inspiration for Discerning Cyclist to start a blog in 2012, it was also the motivation that made Gihan Amarasiriwardena take the truth. action and create a brand called the Ministry of Supply, with the goal of creating exceptionally stylish and comfortable equipment through a science-based approach.

This post is in collaboration with the Ministry of Supplies, the masters of creating beautiful clothes that look good on a bike and look smart in the office.

Ministry of Clothing Supply

Can you ride a bike in a suit?

Traditional wool and cotton dresses are not ideal for cycling, as the required movement and position of the body put pressure on the material and seams of the dress. Despite this, leisure work Companies such as the Ministry of Supplies have tried to solve this problem by creating office suits for cyclists.

These dresses are made of lightweight, elastic and breathable materials, while the cut of the clothes has also been adapted to fit comfortably during your active commute (i.e. when cycling, running or walking).

In fact, to show how dynamic the Ministry of Supplies’s costumes are, co-founder Amarasiriwardena even ran a half marathon in one in 2015 … and set a World record in the process!

Really…

Amarasiriwardena ran the Half Merrython in Gloucester, Massachusetts at 1:24:41, while wearing the Ministry of Supplies suit (complete with shirt and tie, of course).

If you can run a half marathon in less than 90 minutes with this suit, it is fair to say that you can also ride a bike to work comfortably.

Ministry of Kinetic Suit Supply

The most important thing in the Kinetic range of the Ministry of Supplies is the lightness of the clothes. They are also very elastic, as I discovered when I reviewed the fantastic Kinetic pants in early 2021.

The pants and jacket are made of Japanese Primeflex warp knit polyester that offers a 4-way stretch, which essentially means that neither the pants nor the jacket offer any noticeable resistance even when you bend or bend. This flexibility is an obvious advantage when it comes to cycling, as you can pedal freely and even bend over the handles if you want without worrying about the seams of the dress bursting around you.

This type of polyester material is also naturally resistant to wrinkles, which means you can throw your jacket in a bag if you need to, with the wrinkles relaxing in 15 minutes thanks to the warmth of your own body.

This dress even does a decent job on rainy days thanks to its water-resistant coating that will keep you dry unless it really starts to fall off.

Oh, and you don’t have to take the supplies from the Ministry of Supplies to the dry cleaners every week. Just put the washing machine in a cold wash.
